Dear Student Organization Leaders and Advisors,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 academic year! As we prepare for another year of student organization activity at UHCL, I want to reintroduce myself. I am Dr. Jordan Jones, Director of the Center for Student Engagement, and I am excited to continue working alongside you.

Student organizations are an important part of the UHCL experience, and our team wants to help you build strong organizations, develop meaningful experiences, and create opportunities for students to connect. That support begins with helping each organization successfully complete annual registration.

Our first two deadlines are:

  • August 1: Organizations must complete registration to participate in Welcome Back Bash.
  • September 1: Organizations that have not completed registration will be moved to inactive status until all requirements are satisfied. During that time, they may not host events, request funding, reserve campus spaces, or conduct other organization business at UHCL.

Since transitioning to HawkLink last fall, we have been pleased with the opportunities the platform provides students and organizations. As part of this transition, our mandatory annual Student Organization Training is now completed online, providing officers and advisors with greater flexibility.

Registration cannot be approved until at least two officers and the organization advisor complete the required training, quiz, and assigned agreements. Any officer who needs access to the organization’s manager tools must also complete the training. The attached guide provides the full registration requirements, step-by-step instructions, and troubleshooting assistance.

To help you complete the process, our team will offer the following support opportunities:

Student Organization Office Hours
SSB 2201.01

  • Friday, July 17 | 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 21 | 1:00–3:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 23 | 3:00–5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 28 | 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 29 | 12:00–2:00 p.m.

During office hours, student leaders and advisors may meet with our team for assistance with the training or registration process. I will be available for the July 17th ofice hours and would love to connect with you while there!

HawkLink Basic Training
SSCB 2201.12

  • Thursday, July 30 | 1:00–2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 5 | 1:00–2:30 p.m.

These optional sessions will help student leaders and advisors learn how to maximize HawkLink for their organizations. They do not replace the required annual Student Organization Training.

Mandatory Student Organization Orientation

  • Wednesday, August 12
  • 12:00–2:00 p.m.
  • Bayou Building, Garden Room

At least one representative from each organization must attend. We strongly encourage all organization presidents to participate whenever available, as this will also be an important opportunity to connect and network with other student leaders.

Please begin registration as soon as possible so there is time to address any questions or missing requirements. If you experience any challenges, contact our team at engagement@uhcl.edu. We are here to help and want every organization to begin the year prepared for success. You may also reach out to me directly. I want to make sure that my team and I are resources to you all this year and that you feel the support in our work this upcoming year.

I look forward to working with you and supporting your organization throughout the year.

Go Hawks!

Dr. Jordan Jones
Director, Center for Student Engagement
